The above is from an interesting site that claims the Italians may have invented football. The Italians can lay claim to inventing central heating, plumbing & sewerage. Also they were responsible for the basis of most of the worlds present legal systems-Roman land law forms the basis of property law even in commom law countries. Now if there is ever a shortage of balls or for those bleading hearts complaining about the sweatshop conditions where their footballs are made, I have a suggestion. Why not follow what the Romans did. Anyway have a read: www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_722813.html?menu=news.quirkies.sportingquirkies

"According to some chroniclers, when things got really rough, the legions used "the skulls of slaughtered Britons" as balls. " Why? were they that testicularly challenged?

Apparently something similar used to happen with Aussies and the heads of Aboriginals in the 19th century.

"Football" has been around a lot longer than Italians have been around... Quite true, the Romans and the Italians are different peoples. After the fall of Rome Italy was populated by repeated waves of new tribes settling in the area (Ostrogoths? my memory is flakey on this)
