But the backs aren't up to it - too lightweight. If the Eng forwards dominate they can starve the Aussie backs of possession. The Aussie backline has talent to burn BUT the one thing that is a feature of just about all of these players is that they won't help out in the forwards if the pressure goes on (as Wendall Sailor used to do for example). - they just go missing. Which is what happened in the 2nd half of the first game against Aus. [/quote] I'll be up at 6.30 tomorrow morning to watch. An England victory would give international rl a boost and bring a few egos here back to earth. Hoping for a gb win but can I bring myself to cheer them on! A mate was at Twickers last weekend for the Wallabies England game. He reported the match as being fairly ordinary. Even the ru columnists here are bemoaning the way the game has gone. Go England! Just kidding - hope the Kangaroos slam them!!

In the end what a disappointment. Liked the English commentator who said he was sick to death of watching brilliantly executed Australian backline plays that led to tries. England have some good forwards in Burgess, Peacock etc but unfortunately until standards in the Superleague approach the nrl tonight's match will remain typical.

That was a tough final 15minutes to watch. It reminded me of the 'rumble in the jungle'. The aussie forwards just did enough to contain an Eng forward pack that was battering them for an hour but as soon as they got tired the backs pounced.
England had several opportunities but didn't have the finesse once inside the aussie 20m. I have high hopes for Eastmond and Tompkins - but they were out of their depth as organisers in that game.
Speed in the backline is a worry - I suppose quick footballers are too easily tempted into the roundball game in England - while that dominates we'll easily find talented forwards - but struggle to get depth in the positions outside of the pack.
